‘City State’ is the first EP on the newly founded Brussels based label Someguy Records, the brainchild of political journalist Gijs Ramboer, aka Someguy.
Dance rhythms feature throughout this EP, but ‘City State’ is so much more than just another dance record. Orbiting around a hypnotizing vocal sample and adding snippets of failed Zoom Meeting audio, the title track is a perfect reflection of the claustrophobia that the numerous lockdowns of 2020 brought upon us. A feeling that is carried out throughout the EP. An EP that meanders from ambient to techno, from house to IDM, culminating in a powerful remix by Different Fountains (Meakusma, Shubahka, ...), lifting - as they always do - dance music to a whole different level.
