Crevette Podcast 09: LUISA

#9 - luisa

For Luisa, sharing music is an altruistic act, and for this reason, she’s very thankful to all of those who have been enriching her ears. She has been refining her sound, always in an attempt to find a cohesive thread of a story to tell. From a slower techno to a more progressive trance, it is along this axis that she travels to ensure that we don't get lost in the same story, always leaving room for interpretation. We’re very pleased to welcome Lisbon based deejay Luisa to our podcast series. Woep woep !

You named your podcast 'Prospects'. Can you explain why and what mood you tried to capture?

Prospects is the name of my first radio show on collect radio. There are different perspectives and approaches, with different records, different phases of digging, of life. That's why I thought it made sense to give it the same name. This set also conveys that it's a mutation of my daily music research. It's linked to new cycles, new discoveries, new friendships, new perspectives.

Any tracks you want to highlight, a personal favorite?

This repress: Redeye - Resort Annexia. It's the 3rd track in the set. It's spectacular. It's a repress from 1995 and it manages to be so current.

Can you talk a bit about your digging routine when looking for records?

So... I’m completely obsessive. Ahaha I'm joking. But every day I do a lot of research on discogs, I work on the computer all day and so it's inevitable that I don't have discogs open. I wish I had more time to dig around in stores in Lisbon, physically, but it's difficult with the full time job.

Where did you find the records in this mix?

Mostly on discogs and from my Portuguese record dealer - Tozé Diogo.

What led you to collecting and playing records?

In 2016 I went to the Boom festival for the first time and became fascinated with electronic music. That same year, my friend Zé Salvador gave me my first vinyl. From then on, it became part of my daily life: researching, buying, going to the stores. I started going out more, my friend DJ Mary B gave me some bases and I never stopped.

We see you have a gorgeous hand built record shelf at your place, wauw! Did you build it yourself ?

I wish it had been me ahah :). It was my girlfriend and her partner. It's a table made entirely by hand with the finest wood, designed in detail for me.

How are your records organized in this beauty ?

My records are organized by genres but also by represses of ambient, records I play more and records I no longer play.

You are also promoting club nights in Lisbon. Can you tell us a bit more about the scene there ?

There's a lot going on in Lisbon, it's hard to filter it out, but the scene is getting better and better.  I think there's more and more attention to the music, more respect on the dancefloor, less chat. I think it's still a long way off but it's being done and it's good to feel that there's progress when it comes to respect for the night.

Thanks Luisa for your mix and interview. Tenha um bom dia!
